LAB & RADIOLOGY (LIS + RIS)
From Order to Report — Accurate, Automated, Accountable
Diagnostic services are the clinical backbone of modern medicine — doctors rely on lab results and imaging to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients. They are also a significant revenue center. eHospitalSuite’s integrated LIS and RIS modules ensure that every test is tracked from the moment it’s ordered to the moment the report reaches the doctor — with automation that eliminates manual errors, interfacing that connects directly to analyzers and imaging machines, and alerts that save lives.
Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Order Management (CPOE Integration)
Lab test requests flow directly from the doctor's OPD or IPD screen — Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) eliminates paper requisition forms, prevents transcription errors, and ensures the lab knows exactly what test is needed, for which patient, with what clinical context.
Sample Tracking (Accessioning)
From the moment a sample is collected, eHospitalSuite tracks it — receiving, verifying, logging, and labeling every specimen with a unique barcode. The system flags mismatches (wrong tube type, insufficient volume) before processing begins, preventing wasted reagents and delayed results.
Worklist Management
Tests are auto-grouped by department — Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Serology — and prioritized by urgency. Technicians see a clear, organized worklist instead of a pile of tubes and paper forms.
Analyzer Interfacing
Direct bi-directional communication with lab analyzers (Sysmex, Roche, Beckman Coulter, and others). Results flow from the machine into the system automatically — eliminating the manual data entry that is the single largest source of lab errors. The technician validates; they don't transcribe.
Quality Control (QC)
Machine calibration monitoring with Levey-Jennings charts and Westgard rules. If a QC run fails, the system blocks result reporting until the instrument is recalibrated — ensuring that no inaccurate result ever reaches a patient.
Result Entry (Manual & Auto)
For tests that require manual entry (culture sensitivity, microscopy), structured entry forms with normal-range highlighting guide technicians. For interfaced analyzers, results auto-populate with abnormal values flagged in red.
Lab Report Validation
A multi-tier validation workflow — technician enters, senior technician reviews, pathologist approves. No report reaches the doctor without authorized validation. Every validation is logged with user ID and timestamp for audit trails.
Outsourced Test Tracking
For tests sent to external reference labs, the system tracks dispatch, expected turnaround time, and result receipt — ensuring that outsourced tests don't disappear into a communication black hole.
Critical Value Alerts
When a result crosses a life-threatening threshold — dangerously low hemoglobin, critically high potassium, or abnormal cardiac enzymes — the system generates an automated pop-up notification to the treating doctor. This is not a routine message buried in a queue; it is an urgent alert that demands acknowledgment. Lives depend on speed, and eHospitalSuite delivers speed.
Reagent Inventory
Track reagent stock levels, expiry dates, and consumption rates. Automated reorder alerts prevent the nightmare scenario of running out of a critical reagent during a busy morning shift.
Staff Accountability Tracking
Every action — sample receipt, test processing, result entry, validation, report dispatch — is logged with the responsible staff member's ID and timestamp. Full accountability, full traceability.
Radiology Information System (RIS)
Modality Scheduling
Dedicated time-slot management for MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, X-Ray, and other modalities — preventing overbooking and ensuring equipment utilization is optimized. Integration with the Appointment Booking System allows patients to book imaging slots in advance.
DICOM Integration
Full DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) compliance enables bi-directional communication with imaging machines. Patient data flows from eHospitalSuite to the modality (Worklist), and acquired images are stored in the PACS — all linked to the patient's UHID.
Radiologist Reporting
A specialized word processor with customizable macros and templates designed for radiologists. A "Normal Chest X-Ray" template generates a complete, structured report in seconds. Abnormal findings are highlighted, and critical findings trigger alerts to the ordering physician.
Digital Film & Image Link
Every radiology report is linked to the high-resolution PACS image — allowing the treating doctor to view the report and the image side by side on a single screen. No more carrying physical films between departments.
Radiation Dose Tracking
The system records cumulative radiation exposure across multiple scans for each patient — an essential safety feature that protects patients from excessive radiation, especially those requiring repeated imaging (oncology patients, trauma follow-ups).
Staff Accountability Tracking
Every step — scheduling, image acquisition, reporting, delivery — is logged with staff ID and timestamps. Complete traceability for quality audits and accreditation.
